I discovered poker as a kid, playing five-card draw and seven-card stud with the Asian shop owners in the same complex as my mother's small business.
I was hooked.
That eventually turned into grinding live cash in Atlantic City, followed by online poker until Black Friday. Like a lot of winning players, I eventually hit a wall. Fancy play syndrome, ego, poorly timed bluffs, and trying to overcomplicate hands against simple opponents were keeping me from winning as much as I thought I should.
Poker is hard, and we are not entitled to win. That's exactly why the games are beatable. If you're willing to work harder, think better, and make fewer mistakes than the players around you, there is money to be made.
